The adhesive system.
Brands often focus on the film while treating the seal strip, release liner, and printing ink as minor components. In reality, those components can affect performance, recyclability, compostability, and customer experience.
A mailer should be evaluated as a complete structure:
- film;
- adhesive;
- release liner;
- ink;
- surface treatment;
- tear strip;
- optional return seal.
A compostable film does not automatically make the entire mailer compostable. The complete product needs to be assessed.
From a logistics perspective, seal failure is also one of the most damaging problems because it can result in product loss rather than just a cosmetic defect.
