They must be designed backward from the full logistics journey.

1. Self-seal closure

Seal strength must resist peel and compression in transit without distorting the bag through improper adhesive or substrate pairing.

With compostable material systems, adhesives, release liners, and print systems must also align with final product claims.

2. Puncture resistance

Mailers often carry apparel, books, soft goods, and accessories.

Product corners create local stress, especially when parcels are compressed together. Higher tensile strength alone cannot substitute for puncture and tear-propagation testing.

3. Labels and printing

Shipping labels must remain attached through warehousing and delivery.

Bag surfaces must support brand printing, barcode readability, and label adhesion without bloom or humidity-driven failure.

4. Size and load efficiency

TerraLoop plans four common sizes:

  • 10 × 13 in: T-shirts, books, and everyday items;
  • 12 × 15.5 in: sweaters, everyday soft goods, and medium parcels;
  • 14.5 × 19 in: sweaters, hoodies, and larger soft goods;
  • 19 × 24 in: coats, blankets, and high-volume apparel.

Appropriate sizing reduces material and excess air in parcels, improving warehouse and transport efficiency.

5. Transport environment

Products must be validated for high heat, cold, humidity, and prolonged compression in target markets.

Strong performance on fresh lab samples does not guarantee stability after ocean freight, warehousing, and e-commerce fulfillment.

An excellent mailer should meet three tiers:

Manufacturing ready: stable production and printing.

Fulfillment ready: fast bagging, sealing, and labeling.

Delivery ready: survives real logistics and protects contents.
